Why one calendar is safer
IGNOU deadlines are updated through different divisions and portals. Keeping one personal calendar with the official-source link beside each date reduces the chance of relying on an old screenshot or a previous-session deadline.
The deadline calendar in detail
Fresh admission windows open twice a year, ahead of the January and July sessions, and each window has its own portal. The July 2026 window is the one currently open, closing 31 August 2026 for programmes notified as open — always confirm your specific programme is listed before preparing documents. Re-registration for continuing students also runs per-session; the July 2026 window closed on 16 August 2026. Assignment submission deadlines are programme-specific and are published by your study centre and on the assignment portal — the dates are not uniform across IGNOU, so never copy another student's deadline. Exam-form windows for the Term-End Examination open a few weeks before each TEE; the December 2026 TEE form window has no verified deadline yet. Hall tickets typically release about one to two weeks before exams, and results follow roughly six to eight weeks after each TEE.
What happens when you miss a date
Each missed date has a different consequence. Missing the admission window simply moves you to the next session. Missing re-registration delays your course progression by a cycle, as explained in the re-registration guide. Missing an assignment deadline can zero that assignment's weight in your grade, subject to your programme's rules — some programmes allow late submission with permission, others do not. Missing the exam-form window usually means waiting for the next TEE, and there is generally no on-the-spot exam registration. Understanding which consequences are recoverable and which are not is the real reason to maintain the personal calendar described above.
Frequently asked deadline questions
Do deadlines get extended? Sometimes, and only by official notice — the July 2026 admission window itself moved to 31 August. But an extension is never guaranteed, so plan to finish by the published date and treat any extension as bonus time.
Which date counts — payment date or submission date? For admission and re-registration, your application must be fully submitted with successful payment inside the window; initiating a payment before midnight is not the same as completing it. Finish at least a day early when the stakes are high.
Where do extensions appear first? On the relevant portal banner and on official IGNOU notice pages. If a claimed extension cannot be traced to one of those, it is a rumour.
Do different regional centres have different dates? Core university-wide deadlines are uniform, but study-centre-level dates such as assignment submission can vary. Your study centre's notice board and messages are authoritative for those.

How this hub stays accurate
Every date on this page is checked against the live official portal before it is changed, and the review stamp at the top tells you when the last check happened. IGNOU announces different deadlines through different divisions — the admission portal, the re-registration portal, the exam division and the regional centres — so a single announcement rarely covers everything. When an official source conflicts with this page, the official source wins; treat any date older than a few weeks as due for re-verification during admission, registration and exam-form seasons.
What students should do right now
If you are seeking fresh admission for July 2026, you have until 31 August 2026 — start the application early enough that a rejected document can be corrected inside the window. If you meant to re-register and missed 16 August, monitor the re-registration portal for a possible late window but build your study plan around the January 2027 cycle. For December 2026 exam-cycle items, no verified exam-form deadline has been published yet; ignore social-media dates that do not link to an ignou.ac.in or official-portal page.
Reading IGNOU deadline announcements safely
Official deadline changes appear first on the relevant portal banner and on ignou.ac.in notices. Screenshots circulating on WhatsApp and Telegram often carry old dates, and extension rumours are common near closing day. Before acting on any date: open the official portal yourself, check the banner date, and only then pay or submit. If the portal is slow on deadline day, keep retrying — portal slowness does not extend the deadline.
Keeping your own calendar
Maintain one personal list with each date you care about plus the official link it came from: admission deadline, re-registration window, assignment due dates for your programme, exam-form window, hall-ticket release and result dates. Update it the moment any portal banner changes, and set reminders two days before each date rather than on the date itself. Students who maintain such a calendar almost never miss an IGNOU window, because most deadlines are visible on the portals at least two weeks ahead.
Official sources
Always verify a deadline on the official portal before payment or submission.
