IGNOU Course Validity & Grading: Duration, Completion Rules, Credits & Grade Card
Current guide: IGNOU programme validity, maximum duration, credits and completion rules are programme-specific. Students should verify the current programme guide instead of assuming that one duration or one pass rule applies to every course.
IGNOUStatus.in is an independent student-help website and is not an official IGNOU website.
What does course validity mean?
For IGNOU students, programme validity usually means the maximum period allowed to complete all required components of the programme. The minimum and maximum duration differ by programme.
How to check your maximum duration
- Find your exact programme code.
- Open the current programme page or programme guide.
- Check minimum and maximum duration.
- Review any re-admission or extension provisions only from current IGNOU instructions.
Credits and completion
Completion is not based only on appearing in the Term-End Examination. Depending on the programme, required components can include assignments, theory examinations, practicals, projects, dissertations, internships or other evaluated work.
Grading and Grade Card
The Grade Card is useful for tracking component-wise marks/status, but students should not infer universal pass percentages across all programmes. Check the relevant programme guide and course requirements.
What if a component is missing?
First confirm that the assignment/project/exam was submitted correctly and allow for processing time. Then use the relevant official service or contact the Study Centre/Regional Centre as appropriate.
