How IGNOU ODL Works 2026: Admission, Study Material, Assignments, Exams & Results

Updated September 2026: IGNOU Open and Distance Learning (ODL) combines self-learning material, learner-support centres, assignments, practical/project work where applicable, term-end examinations and online student services. Requirements vary by programme, so students should always match the programme code and admission session.

IGNOU ODL journey

  1. Admission: Apply only through the current official IGNOU admission route for your programme.
  2. Confirmation: Save the application, payment acknowledgement, enrolment number and programme code.
  3. Study material: Start with available digital resources such as eGyanKosh while tracking printed material where applicable.
  4. Assignments: Download the correct session and course-code assignment and follow your RC/LSC submission instructions.
  5. Re-registration: Continue into the next year/semester through the notified re-registration process where applicable.
  6. Exam form: Submit the TEE form within the notified window and verify payment/status.
  7. Date sheet and hall ticket: Check the official schedule and admission certificate before the exam.
  8. Results and Grade Card: Track TEE and other evaluated components separately until completion.

Regional Centre vs Learner Support Centre

Your Regional Centre coordinates learner services in its jurisdiction. A Learner Support Centre can handle counselling, assignments, practicals and local academic support depending on the programme. Do not copy another RC's local instructions without checking your allotted centre.

Printed and digital study material

Digital material can help you begin immediately. Printed-material arrangements vary by programme and admission choice. Keep your address current and use official status/support channels if dispatch remains unresolved.

Assignments and exams

Assignment question papers are session- and course-code-specific. TEE participation is a separate process requiring the exam form, applicable fee, date sheet and hall ticket. Submission of an assignment does not itself register you for the TEE.

Results and completion

The TEE result and Grade Card serve different purposes. If a component is missing, identify whether it is a TEE paper, assignment, practical or project before escalating. Preserve submission and payment evidence until the Grade Card is complete.
